When you’re as accomplished a DJ as Green Lantern—or even Green’s counterpart in the Live from the Mothership series, Snoopadelic (also known as hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg)—you share music with the world however and whenever you want to. The second iteration of their collaborative mix project finds the pair serving up their personal favorite funk, soul, and R&B classics—with a few eyebrow-raising updates—as a healing balm for the troubles of the modern world. “The world is in need of good vibrations,” Snoopadelic tells Apple Music. “The Mothership Connection is making an Emergency Landing. Me and Green Lantern [are] taking you from P-funk to G-funk and everything in between, Death Row style!” That means the infallible work of Parliament-Funkadelic, Kool & The Gang, and Rick James, of course, along with updates from voices like October London, JANE HANDCOCK, and Diamond Ortiz. As a listening experience, Live from the Mothership II feels like what would be playing at either Snoop or Green Lantern’s homes. “The Mothership project is all about raising the vibration, taking you higher musically,” Green Lantern says. “Imagine a cool-ass house party in outer space—that’s us!”
