In 2024, Michigan metalcore troupe I Prevail parted ways with co-lead singer Brian Burkheiser, leaving Eric Vanlerberghe to handle both the clean and harsh vocals. The band’s fourth album, Violent Nature, is their first without Burkheiser. Luckily, Vanlerberghe and his bandmates rise to the challenge, delivering one of their heaviest records yet. Moody singles “Rain” and “Into Hell” bring anthemic melodies and slick electronic underpinnings, while the short, blistering title track recalls the angriest nu metal of the mid-’90s. “Annihilate Me” splits the difference, bringing angst and atmosphere in equal measure.
