Scott Arceneaux Jr., who is known by fans worldwide as $crim, is a true Swiss Army knife: He’s one-half of underground-rap all-stars Suicideboy$, produces music under his alter ego, Budd Dwyer, and drops solo music, like his 30-song 2025 album, via crucis. He gives a shout-out to the beatmaker side of his persona on album opener “destination: lost,” when he says, “You did good, $lick,” referring to another layer of nickname he frequently deploys. Later in that introduction, $crim outlines the philosophy he brings to his music both as a solo artist and with Suicideboy$, spitting, “Grandma texting me that Jesus saves/Tryna get up out my demon phase/Heartache got me with a demon face.” Family, faith, temptation, and desire course through this album like the blood in his veins. On “methamphetamine blues,” he showcases his singer-songwriter chops, singing over an acoustic guitar with a healthy dose of Auto-Tune. Here, he again aims to fix his heartbreak with a quick hit, all the while acknowledging that it won’t do the trick: “All I have left is the ghost of you/Pills in my hand I’m supposed to do.”
