“I believe that in today’s world, it’s crucial to find ways to harmonize different sounds,” Taiwanese artist Chiu Chun tells Apple Music. Musical diversity is a key value for the versatile guitarist, known for playing with funk and folk bands like ULove, Funky Brothers, and ZiXuan & Slow Train, and for his ambitious electronic project, Chill Qin. “I would like to use this DJ mix to convey a diverse tropical rhythm, incorporating influences from regions such as Asia or Africa, while also blending the works of local Taiwanese electronic music producers,” he says of his Lunar New Year mix. Although his original material tends to fall into the bass and leftfield genres, Chiu blends different styles freely during his sets. “In live DJ mixes, the crowd’s energy gives me quick and direct feedback, and the mixes tend to lean towards more intense rhythms and an elevated atmosphere,” he says. “However, in the studio, I can better appreciate the story each track tells and connect the atmosphere of each song more smoothly.”
