Soft Spot

When it comes to a legacy of globally popular artists, it can’t be easy for Norway to be sitting right there next to Sweden, with its varied and storied collection of ABBAs and House Mafias and Ghosts and Roxettes and Aces of Base and Peters Bjorns and Johns. Active since they were teens, Kristiansand, Norway’s Honningbarna have spent over a decade doing their part to level up their homeland’s reputation, offering brute-force but tuneful noise-rock that mixes precision industrial racket with style and playfulness and a furious streak that comes through regardless of your mastery of Norwegian dialects. Edvard Valberg ups the ante on the charismatic-frontperson trope by also playing cello. Think Refused meets The Hives, but a little further west.
