On a bass-driven romp across the dance floor, EDM producer and pop alchemist CORSAK sets his sights on the alluring sounds of paradise. The artist describes “123” as “a nu-disco funk courtship song”. Below, he shares with Apple Music the story behind the track: “I saw a nature documentary online about New Guinea’s birds of paradise, which are known for especially vivid plumage, precisely choreographed courtship dances and mating calls that sound like ‘woo woo’. I was inspired to build a melody around that call. For the Spatial Audio version, I asked engineer Richard Furch, who has credits on over 20 Grammy-nominated albums, to work with me. We turned the stereo version’s single bird into a whole flock by designing a 360-degree clockwise rotation for the vocal tracks and ‘woo’ effect. We also split the accompaniment into eight independent voices to envelop the listener’s body in sound, locating the highs at head level and the mids and lows at the waist and legs. Put on your headphones and close your eyes—you’re in a tropical jungle with a roaring bonfire of bass swirling at your feet as birds of paradise dance around you, calling ‘woo’.”
