On his debut EP, YFN Lucci’s voice has a breathless urgency. It occasionally breaks into bluesy melodic runs reminiscent of his labelmate Rich Homie Quan, who appears on the brooding highlight “Exactly How It Was.” Wish Me Well kicks off with Lucci’s uplifting breakthrough single “Wonder Why,” where his voice bounces off the more energetic Skooly. But the dominant mood is downbeat and bittersweet, with songs like “Made For It” tracing the struggles and sacrifices behind Lucci’s career.
