The musical landscape of Detroit has always powered the work of seasoned DJ and producer Waajeed, who has called the city home for almost his entire life. But so too has his total aversion to the boundaries of genre. So it’s fitting that this mix, released in celebration of Waajeed’s 2023 DJ Mag cover, features an array of sounds that he sees as the essence of techno, all by names from the city it was born in. “This is a journey into my definition of techno,” he tells Apple Music. “Take a 60-minute excursion with me with the help of a few local legends. With gospel, soul, funk, deep house, and industrial on the menu.”
