Bulli Bainbridge—the moniker for Mumbai composer/producer Zain Calcuttawala’s genre-hopping project—collaborates with some of the most emotive voices in the business on this eclectic, heartfelt debut LP. Written during the 2021 lockdown, the album explores isolation, mental health and pandemic-fuelled frustration over a soundtrack of smooth R&B, funky hip-hop, off-beat electronic vibes and epic orchestral flourishes. Highlights include rapper-singer Trichia Grace-Ann spitting out lyrics at the haters on “The Queen” and Shalmali Kholgade’s soaring vocals on grief-laden ballad “Better Place”.
