FELIVAND’s debut Home Session allowed the Meanjin/Brisbane artist to get deeper into standout songs from her 2022 debut album Ties. “These are some of the more upbeat songs on my debut album and I really wanted to record a version of them where they’re performed slower and more vulnerably with the live band,” she tells Apple Music. “It’s nice to hear that the songs translate into different forms. I feel like some songs don’t translate live, and it’s nice to hear the chords and melodies hold their own throughout different versions.” It’s not just her own songs that she’s explored here. “I selected ’The Dress’ by Dijon as the cover because that song soundtracked my year last year,” she says. “It’s one of those songs where I think the original is so perfect I didn’t want to cover it closely with bass or drums or anything. So I wanted to do it as a sort of ballad, with just grand piano and no rhythm section and it brought out a really different feeling in the song for me.”
