Own Side Now (Deluxe Anniversary Edition)

In 2011, a then-emerging 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Nashville named Caitlin Rose released her debut album, which was met with significant acclaim. This remastered edition of Own Side Now celebrates the album’s 10th anniversary while also serving as a time capsule of a creative city on the brink of massive growth, with Rose writing in the reissue’s announcement, “It’s striking to think that the house where this album was recorded doesn’t even exist anymore. I loved this town then, and still do, but I hope when people listen to these songs again they can pick up on that strange, uncertain magic that I and everyone involved in this project, this era, were experiencing at that time.” Highlights include “Shanghai Cigarettes,” which features Rayland Baxter, and the Rilo Kiley-reminiscent title track (shortened to “Own Side”), all reminders of Rose’s gifts as a nuanced, thoughtful vocalist and lyricist. Rose also includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks, “Whatchoo” and “Only Lies.”
