For those who just can't get enough of Is Tropical’s first studio album, Native To—or for anyone who simply likes cosmopolitan dance-rock—the London trio delivers a companion EP of sundry remixes. Moonlight Matters opens with a remix of Is Tropical's hit single “The Greeks,” dropping us smack-dab in the middle of a hard-funk bass line and hi-hat already in full swing. But before you can get your boogie on, the tune downshifts into murky fidelity and disco-era guitars redolent of Daft Punk. The bretonLABS reworking of the same song sounds vastly different—it’s an indie-electro concoction with a distorted bass that rumbles so deep that tooth fillings might rattle at club volumes. The Rennes, France–based Juveniles give “Lies” some glossy, neon '80s synth-pop accouterments with a bottom end built to blast from the bazooka speakers of your lowered minitruck. We Are Machines' take on “Lies” sounds rooted in the sort of early-'90s house synonymous with illegally thrown parties involving giant Dr. Seuss hats and secret map points.
