

Named after the Roland drum machine that was the engine of ’80s dance music, these Mancunians built the foundation for English acid house with their second album. The songs flow like a great DJ set and contain the DNA for much of ’90s electronica, from Moby to Underworld. “Pacific 202” is a touchstone of rave culture, riding a wicked bass groove and slinky mix of synths and sax. And, yes, that’s a sample of Van McCoy’s disco classic “The Hustle” on dance-floor magnet “Cobra Bora.”
