All That Remains' merciless take on metalcore sounds especially savage on their third album, The Fall of Ideals. Chalk it up to the band’s relentless, machine-gun-blast beats ("The Weak Willed"), vocalist Philip Labonte’s metallic teeth-gnashing ("Not Alone"), or Oli Herbert’s lightning-fast guitar shredding ("We Stand"). Even the album's occasional moments of levity—such as the melodic, acoustic-dashed "Whispers (I Hear You)"— eventually cave under the band’s thrashing, gnarled intensity.
