That Was Then…

That Was Then…

A major player in New York's indie-rap boom of the mid- to late '90s, Mike Zoot released a bunch of great 12-inches, appeared on countless mixtapes, and was featured on era-defining compilations like Lyricist Lounge, Soundbombing, and Superrappin'. Despite his immense rhyme skills and tireless work ethic, he never really took it to the next level career-wise. After several years where he seemed to be everywhere, he disappeared into "whatever happened to that dude?" oblivion. Luckily for us, GuessWhyld Productions (which he recorded for extensively back in the day) has cracked open the vaults, compiling 15 older joints that feature Zoot at his finest, working with legendary NYC producers like Da Beatminerz, Just Blaze, Dr. Butcher, Sean J Period, Buckwild, EZ Elpee, and DJ Spinna. Check out "Harry's Nite," "All in My Own," "See Me When I Get There," and "High Drama," featuring a young Mos Def.
