Atlanta’s Biters max out on ’70s tropes such as glam, power pop, and power shags. So this 2012 mini-album is fittingly crammed full of glorious handclaps, monster major-to-minor riffage, one-step-up key changes, shout-out choruses and mottled-heart lyrics. From the sad punk pop of “Born to Cry” to the Cheap Trick–ready “Hold On,” there isn’t a limp tune here. In fact, the piano-enhanced “Rock ’n’ Roll Loser” likely would’ve made old Ian Hunter proud to have written, while both “Otherside” and “Breakin’ Your Heart Again” suggest what Thin Lizzy might’ve have sounded like had Phil Lynott grown up in suburban Georgia.
