Van Coke Kartel Essentials

Notorious Afrikaans rock band Fokofpolisiekar went on hiatus in 2007, prompting singer Francois Van Coke and bassist Wynand Myburgh to form Van Coke Kartel. Their seismic musical impact continued unabated. Van Coke's signature gruff vocals, unapologetic lyrics and the band's full-throttle sound—mixing rock and post-hardcore—ushered in a fresh era of hard-hitting contemporary Afrikaans rock. A string of incendiary hits and a glut of MK Music Awards followed, as did collaborations with luminaries like Laudo Liebenberg and Peach van Pletzen.
