About TKZee
South Africa’s TKZee is one of the most iconic groups to ever come out of the ’90s kwaito scene. Together, the trio of Kabelo Mabalane, Tokollo Tshabalala and Zwai Bala took influences from both hip-hop and classical on their sample-heavy 1994 debut EP, Take It Eazy, resulting in a groundbreaking new style the group dubbed Guz, a sound which they further elevated with offerings such as Palafala, Shibobo, and Halloween. As the group grew in stature, they expanded their ranks to form the supergroup TKZee Family, whose 1999 album, Guz 2001, included contributions from the likes of S’bu, Loyiso, Gwyza, 2 Shot, and Dr Mageu. In 2019, TKZee was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the South African Music Awards for their contributions to the country’s musical landscape.
