Six Finger Satellite

About Six Finger Satellite

At the height of grunge, Providence’s Six Finger Satellite fooled their way onto Sub Pop records with a carefully constructed hoax demo designed to appeal to the dominant style on the label. Their actual sound, which appeared on their debut THE PIGEON IS THE MOST POPULAR BIRD, was a prescient fusion of post-punk noise and acidic synths. They continued exploring dance-punk rhythms, with the all-electronic MACHINE CUISINE EP and the guitar-heavy LAW OF RUINS, up until their disbanding in 2001. The sound Six Finger Satellite helped pioneer has now risen to prominence courtesy of LCD Soundsystem and the Rapture, among others. The band itself reunited in 2008.
