When Gunna hits the gym, songs always come with him. “Music is the workout,” the hip-hop star tells Apple Music. “It’s what gets me started and what keeps me going. Music keeps me locked in. I’m in the gym six times a week. Some days I’m lifting, other days it’s just boxing or cardio. I like to switch it up, but I always come in focused and intentional. It’s the mental reset for me. When I’m working out, that’s time away from distractions—just me versus me. The clarity it brings is unmatched.” For this playlist, he’s selected tracks that he hopes will give you the same focus and intent that he takes to workouts, picking out plenty of his own music as well as motivational cuts from Nigerian superstars such as Burna Boy, Tems and Rema, plus artists at hip-hop’s vanguard, including Ice Spice, UK rap heavyweight Dave and Gunna’s fellow Atlanta MC, Casper Bluff. “I wanted to give people the same energy I move with,” says Gunna. “These songs push tempo, they build momentum. Some are pure motivation, some are laid-back but still hit. It’s not all just me—I had to throw in some Afrobeat and new-wave artists who keep the vibe fresh.” Controlling the tempo and having those laid-back moments are key to a successful workout for Gunna. “Consistency over intensity,” he says. “You don’t gotta kill yourself every time. Just keep showing up, stay active, and your body will thank you.” And it doesn’t have to happen in the gym, either. “Find what works for you,” says Gunna. “If the gym feels like a chore, maybe it’s hooping, running, biking—just move. And keep your playlist tight.”
