One of contemporary metal’s leading voices in djent—a dextrous style of distorted, palm-muted guitar—After the Burial’s progressive style also incorporates aspects of chugging, leaden death and extreme metal. In addition to their agile, winding guitar riffs and tempestuous noise moments, lead singer Anthony Notarmaso’s barreling growls amp up the drama even further. Lead guitarist Trent Hafdahl is the only remaining original member of the Minneapolis group, which came together in 2004 as four high school metallers seeking their way; still, this group always operates with full and furious power.
