Yaniss Odua Essentials

Martinique-born reggae artist Yaniss Odua recorded his first album, appropriately titled Little Yaniss, aged just 13, and his early '00s singles with Tippa Irie and Tiken Jah Fakoly saw his socially conscious lyrics and ragamuffin style rise to prominence. Infused with bubbly Caribbean rhythms and dubwise production, Odua's sound lends itself to crooning over slick pop-reggae as much as his more forceful style on rootsy cuts. His 2013 album Ideal Time saw more high-profile collaborations—including the righteous Jamaican star Richie Spice—as he sang proclamations of love, unity and the Rastafarian way.
