Wolfgang Voigt Essentials

Cologne, Germany's Wolfgang Voigt has recorded under dozens of aliases over the years—Love Inc., M:I:5, Freiland, All, Mike Ink, the duo Burger/Ink, and many more—but almost all of them are united by one concept: the power of repetition, preferably anchored by a four-to-the-floor kick drum. From his origins making hardcore techno in the early '90s, Voigt's experiments became increasingly minimalist, and often, increasingly psychedelic. His ambient, classical-sampling GAS project remains his crowning achievement—that and the label Kompakt, which he co-founded in 1998.
