William Grant Still Essentials

William Grant Still Essentials

With more than 200 works to his name, the American composer William Grant Still wrote for the concert hall, opera house, church, salon, and ballet stage. He was the first American to have an opera performed by Fiorello La Guardia's New York City Opera company and was an important part of the Harlem Renaissance movement that revived and showcased the work of Black American artists. Deeply influenced by folk music, Still’s works are a wonderful, vivid expression of Americana.
