Going by their alt-rock style, Urbandub’s name is something of a red herring, but there’s a grain of truth behind the misnomer. When the band formed in Cebu City at the turn of the century, they’d fully intended to pursue reggae, dub and hip-hop. However, gravitating instead to sounds influenced by the likes of Deftones, Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins, Urbandub have made epic indie rock their calling card. That goes for their powerful, riff-driven swagger (“Fraily”) as much as their horizon-expanding grandeur (“Endless, a Silent Whisper”).
