Twin Peaks’ blend of garage rock, psychedelia, power pop and barroom blues feels both out of time and utterly timeless. The Chicago band’s first album, 2013’s Sunken, a hastily recorded 20-minute set of ramshackle rock, was a bold DIY statement right out of the gate. That loose and riotous appeal carried over into their live shows as they increasingly refined their sound on record, slipping in layers of jaunty keys, heavy bass and bursts of brass. All the while, the quintet balances the personalities of four lead vocalists that swap sharp sneers and sweet sentiments over Brit-rock-informed grooves and moody, bluesy slow jams.
