Top Songs of 2023: Canada

Apple Music’s end-of-year charts are based on plays between November 1, 2022, and October 31, 2023. It’s no secret that Canada loves its country music. But that was particularly apparent over the last year, when artists such as Luke Combs, Zach Bryan, Bailey Zimmerman, and Morgan Wallen asserted their dominance on Apple Music’s charts. In fact, more than 30% of the 100 most-listened-to songs on Apple Music in Canada were by country artists—18 of them by Morgan Wallen alone. But that wasn’t all that happened. Taylor Swift happened too, accounting for seven of 2023’s top tunes on one of her biggest years yet. Miley Cyrus, SZA, and Olivia Rodrigo all had a pretty solid year as well. Homegrown heroes Drake and The Weeknd held it down for hip-hop and R&B, as they always do, but up-and-comers TALK, Preston Pablo, and Tate McRae (with an assist from Tiësto) proved that Canada’s talent pool shows no sign of drying up. Of course, plenty of hits in Canada were hits everywhere: The UK-meets-US team-up of PinkPantheress and Ice Spice as well as Dave and Central Cee delivered huge candidates for song of the summer. And even decades later, you couldn’t escape Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” or Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Hold on to that feeling—here are the top 100 songs that Canada just couldn’t get enough of in 2023.
