Top Songs of 2023: Nigeria

Apple Music’s end-of-year charts are based on plays between November 1, 2022 and October 31, 2023. Nigeria’s top musicians kept the pressure high in 2023, a year dominated by legends and relative newcomers alike. Omah Lay catapulted to the top with an Ozuna-assisted remix of “soso,” and Asake kept his winning streak going with “Lonely at the Top,” a cut from from his second album, Work of Art, that all but lived up to its name. Afrobeats legend Davido made a thrilling comeback with Timeless, which included the standout hits “FEEL” and Musa Keys collab “UNAVAILABLE.” The street scene gained even more momentum, dominated by Seyi Vibez (“Man of the Year”) and his irresistible modern take on Apala which draws on elements of Fuji, amapiano, hip-hop, and Afro-soul. And the country’s hip-hop stars continued to make the gene their own, led by ODUMODUBLVCK and his blend of drill, grime, and Afrobeats captured in hits like “DECLAN RICE.” Check out the tracks Apple Music users kept on repeat this year.
