We don't have to say nothing—it's a family thing with it.” For the latest episode of Apple Music’s The Message, Saadiq, his brother D’wayne Wiggins, and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley sat down with Ebro—a man they have a long and storied history with—to talk growing up in Oakland and musical battles with new jack swing legends Guy. There’s also a new generation taking up the family business: Burgeoning indie rock outfit Hello Yello features Wiggins’ sons Dylan and Jaden. For their The Message playlist, the trio submitted songs from more than a few heroes of Black American music, like Earth, Wind & Fire, Al Green, The Delfonics, The Isley Brothers, Prince, and Aretha Franklin; tracks from some newer faves like Tyler, The Creator, Steve Lacy, and Cleo Sol—and of course, a couple of Tony! Toni! Toné! songs for good measure.
