Carin Leon found a kindred spirit in Kane Brown. The “Thank God” hitmaker joins the quickly rising Mexican singer-songwriter on new song “The One (Pero No Como Yo),” an infectious tune that finds the intersection between traditional Mexican music and laidback pop country. Fresh off debuting on the Grand Ole Opry, Leon tells Apple Music that when he decided to pursue a solo country career in earnest, Brown’s name came up as an ideal collaborator. “The first name that somebody told me to work with—‘it'll be incredible’—it was Kane Brown,” Leon tells Apple Music. “[He has] a lot of family values. He loves music. He loves what he does. And it was very easy. When we got this song, he just went to it like, ‘I love the song; I love this. I would love you to write on it.’” This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges.
