The Zolas Essentials

Like so much of the Britpop and ‘90s rock they draw from, The Zolas have a knack for making brightly melodic songs with a scrappy edge. Formed in 2009 by former Lotus Child members Zachary Gray and Tom Dobrzanski, the band became mainstays of Vancouver’s alt-pop scene alongside similarly tuneful peers like The New Pornographers and Hey Ocean!. Maintaining the brashness and energy they displayed on their 2009 debut, Tic Toc Tic, and 2012’s Ancient Mars, they hit another high gear with 2021’s “Yung Dicaprio,” a cheeky tribute to the Hollywood star.
