The Temptations: The '70s
Apple Music
In the early '70s, The Temptations were the world's most radical soul group, give or take Sly and The Family Stone. Producer Norman Whitfield created epic backdrops for the group's harmonies. The dramatic sound, full of peaks and valleys, was dark, funky, soulful, and deeply psychedelic. Splitting with Whitfield in 1974, The Tempts reverted to a smoother R&B sound that was as stylish as always.
