The Temptations: The '60s
Apple Music
The Temptations brought showbiz flair to soul, and pop appeal to gritty R&B. They featured three of Motown's most persuasive voices: Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, and Dennis Edwards. Each starred as lead singer, but to very different effect. Their classic songs had all the punch and power of Motown's sound, but when producer Norman Whitfield took over in the late '60s, the group became a forceful psych-soul outfit.
