The Stone Roses Essentials

The Stone Roses were among the first bands to fuse the two dominant sounds of their native late '80s Manchester scene: jangling indie guitar rock and dance beats. Rooted in decades of vintage British pop from The Beatles to The Smiths and powered by John Squire's guitar heroics and Ian Brown's electrifying charisma, The Stone Roses released a brilliant self-titled LP in 1989. It spawned numerous hit singles and was one of the key releases of the Britpop era. After 1994's experimental Second Coming, the band split rancorously, barring occasional reunion tours.
