The Pogues Essentials

The Pogues Essentials

The Pogues, formed in 1982 in London, brought Ireland's boisterous drinking songs and nostalgic ballads to a generation raised on loud guitars instead of fiddles. It took a while for the band's previously unheard-of brand of Celtic punk to catch on, but on their sophomore release, 1985's Elvis Costello-produced Rum Sodomy & the Lash, they were on their way. Beset by lineup changes, The Pogues called it quits in 1996, but after reassembling for a 2001 Christmas tour, they officially reformed.
