The band that wrote 69 Love Songs is bound to have a rich catalog, and The Magnetic Fields' is a fountainhead of synth-heavy indie pop. The glitchy, sugary twee of “Your Girlfriend's Face” is infectious, and the deceptively sunny ‘60s sweetness of “The Saddest Story Ever Told” reveals songwriter Stephin Merritt's love of vintage sounds. His solo turn on “One April Day” is stunningly peaceful.
