The Kid LAROI Essentials

True to his name, The Kid LAROI began releasing music and gaining attention when he was just 14 years old. The Sydney-born artist of Kamilaroi and French origin found his feet among the flourishing sounds and fading boundaries of Australia’s hip-hop scene, taking cues from melodic US rappers like Post Malone as well as the late Juice WRLD, who mentored, toured, and collaborated with him. Following a series of buzz-generating singles, which included features from Lil Tecca and Y2K, LAROI’s debut album, F*CK LOVE, gave listeners a more fully formed view of his sound and artistry. He raps openly about heartbreak and relationships (“MAYBE,” “TELL ME WHY”), and his growth, success, and the friends he’s made—and lost—along the way (“TRAGIC,” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again). And sound-wise, he’s as comfortable over gritty club beats and aggressive production as he is tender acoustic guitars and gentle piano. LAROI’s influences might be global, but he’s not above repping his hometown, as evidenced on his gritty Onefour collaboration “My City.”
