The Interrupters Essentials

The L.A. quartet The Interrupters is best known for its big, brash blend of punk and ska, but its palette also includes straight-ahead punk as well as tunes that transcend subgenres. The band began in 2011 when brothers Kevin, Justin, and Jesse Bivona, who had been playing guitar, bass, and drums, respectively, in The Telacasters, began collaborating with brassy-voiced singer-songwriter Aimee Allen. After a couple of years of hitting the road hard, in 2014 the four released their first album, produced by Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong, with whom they worked on his Tim Timebomb and Friends side project. The Interrupters’ touring increased, and 2016’s Say It out Loud landed on the indie album charts. The 2018 album Fight the Good Fight gave the band its biggest single to that point, “She’s Kerosene”; 2022’s “As We Live” offered a cross-generational ska summit with guests Armstrong and Bodysnatchers singer Rhoda Dakar.
