The Goo Goo Dolls: Live

The Goo Goo Dolls: Live

In addition to keeping up a regular release schedule of full-length studio albums, Buffalo pop-rock stalwarts The Goo Goo Dolls continue to fill out their catalog with hi-fi live recordings. Since their formative years in the early ’90s, guitarist-vocalist Johnny Rzeznik and bassist-vocalist Robby Takac have regularly documented their shifting live bands on EPs and special releases and on expanded editions of their albums. Highlights include the raw-nerve energy of “Long Way Down” and the bittersweet sensuality of “Name” on the 20th-anniversary edition of 1995’s A Boy Named Goo. In 2018, the band released a pair of live albums—The Audience Is This Way, The Audience Is That Way—that function as an extended career retrospective, highlighting Rzeznik and Takac’s evolving approach to interpreting their biggest hits (“Iris,” “Slide”) and compelling takes on fan favorites.
