The Doors Essentials

Led by iconoclastic singer and dark poet Jim Morrison, The Doors mixed rock with jazz and the blues, creating a wild psychedelic sound that defined L.A. in the late '60s. They were notorious for their chaotic live shows, with the rebellious and defiant Morrison clashing with audiences and even the police. The mayhem didn't stop the group from unleashing six albums in five years, all blockbusters packed with songs that have become classic rock staples. Morrison died tragically in 1971 when he was just 27. His three bandmates carried on briefly without him before finally splitting in '73.
