The Charlatans Essentials

The Charlatans Essentials

The Charlatans continue to fly the flag for Brit-rock despite a series of personal setbacks that would have floored lesser men. They debuted in '90 with Some Friendly, an LP that fitted seamlessly into the "baggy" scene with its mix of dance rhythms and indie pop. By the mid-'90s they had developed into a formidable albums band, dropping some of the more obvious electronic influences in favor of a classic British rock style that has continued to serve them well. The deaths of keyboardist Rob Collins in '96 and drummer Jon Brookes in '13 only served to toughen the band's resolve.
