The Beach Boys: Influences

The Beach Boys' sound didn't just spring from the ether. The Four Freshmen provided lush, four-part harmonies, as heard in "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring." "Sweet Little Sixteen" so resembled "Surfin' U.S.A." that Chuck Berry received co-writing credit. Jerry Lee Lewis' pumping piano on "Breathless" set up the rhythm for "Shut Down" and "Fun Fun Fun."
