Without Sunny Day Real Estate, the term emo might have never entered the modern lexicon of music. A post-hardcore band formed by Dan Hoerner and Nate Mendel, their 1994 debut album Diary is arguably the most definitive emo record of all time. Despite the enigmatic band essentially self-imploding not long after releasing LP2 in 1995, they went on to catch a second wind in the late-‘90s, as they reunited for a pair of critically acclaimed records in 1998 and 2000 to cement their legacy.
