When he wasn't leading his own bands, tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine unfurled judiciously buttery flourishes against Kenny Burrell's pristine guitar tones and Jimmy Smith's quivering organ lines, among many other marquee collaborators. He was at his loosest on Shirley Scott's transcendent 1969 groover “The Soul Is Willing,” while gorgeously shading in Diana Krall's supremely torchy 1995 take on “Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby.”
