Known to many simply as “The Sound,” tenor saxophonist Stan Getz elevated everything his beautifully authoritative tone touched. Herb Ellis' “Tin Roof Blues” moves along swimmingly on its own, but Getz's cool solo gets deep in the pocket; his playing on Chet Baker's “My Funny Valentine” is a fresh wind of low-register bliss and satisfying crests on the higher end.
