Sodom Essentials

Your speakers aren't broken—that's just how Sodom sound on nearly every song. Indeed, these Germans are devoted to extreme thrash rooted in crude, noisy chops and grotesque lyrics. "Ausgebombt,” from 1989's Agent Orange, is one of their staples, capturing Tom Angelripper's trademark terrifying scream and speeding basslines. “Tapping the Vein” is even more violent, pushing the axes into a guttural, death-metal zone. Sodom have also played a major role in shaping black metal; songs like “Nuclear Winter,” with filthy, blurry distortion, have clearly inspired many a Norwegian metalhead.
