Shuta Hasunuma got his start in 2006, constructing jittery electronic numbers that play human frailty against the glitchy sounds of modern technology. On the Tokyo-based artist's early albums, light acoustic guitar and faint traces of Hasunuma's own voice dart across the skittery electronic landscape. In recent years, he's moved away from the laptop to explore classical sounds alongside his Shuta Hasunuma Philharmonic Orchestra. He's also set his creations against a full funk band—highlighted on 2016's Melody, a horn-augmented collection that calls to mind the disco-pop of Hoshino Gen.
