French producer Fakear’s beats might all move in the same propulsive, forward direction, but his textures, synths, samples, and melodies spread like tendrils; they can at first sound whimsical and unpredictable until patterns naturally emerge and lock into place. You can hear similar songwriting strains in the tracks he’s chosen for his Selects set—the playlist in which the world’s best DJs and producers share their favorite tunes of the moment. “I'm always looking for new music, and I'm often doing this at my desk, with some hot tea and my cat on my lap,” Fakear, aka Théo Le Vigoureux, tells Apple Music. “So I'm naturally attracted to cozy house music.” In that vein, there are selections from the likes of Sofia Kourtesis, Fred again.., and Logic1000, but he’s also included more exploratory offerings from Orbital, Floating Points, and Caribou. “This playlist is tailored for warm summer nights and comfy winter evenings,” he says. “I added classic tracks that influenced me greatly, and tracks of my friends, because those moments are always better when shared.” Hear all his Selects, and add any you like to your library.
