Scarface Essentials

Scarface is one of the south's most influential MCs. The Houston lyricist came of age as part of the Geto Boys in the late '80s and early '90s, and quickly gained a following for his extreme hardcore lyrics and his descriptive storytelling. Facemob famously penned every verse on GB's “Mind Playin' Tricks on Me.” ‘Face stayed with Geto Boys, but launched his solo career with the gold-selling Mr. Scarface Is Back in 1991. He's released three gold and three platinum LPs, including 1994's The Diary featuring the chilling “Seen a Man Die” and “No Tears,” which was hilariously rapped by actor David Herman in 1999 comedy Office Space. He became the president of Def Jam South at the turn of the millennium and signed Ludacris to the label. His 2002 album The Fix—partly produced by Kanye West—was widely critically acclaimed and is arguably his best work.
