Rusted Root Essentials

Rusted Root may hail from Pittsburgh, but their sound is global. They broke out in the jam-band scene thanks to their knack for tucking soulful pop-rock inside world-music beats and melodies. A monster hit in 1995, the Paul Simon-inspired “Send Me On My Way” is a bobbing rain dance of marimba, flute, and African chants, while the walking hymn “Heaven” showcases Michael Glabicki's playful scatting and love of spiritual poetry. Rusted Root also show they can rock on their cover of the Stones' “You Can't Always Get What You Want,” which is shot through with funky hand drums and bluesy guitar stabs.
